Sauvignon Blanc Pronounced - so-vin-yon blonk, is a variety which shows its best when grown in the cooler wine regions of Australia.

The cool wine regions of Yarra Valley, Adelaide Hills, Margaret River, Canberra, Orange, and Tasmania, are all regions which produce wonderfully expressive Sauvignon Blanc.

Sauvignon Blanc is often near-colourless with colours of light straw to light yellow. Young wines may have green tinge and aged wines can present deep yellow and golden.

Sauvignon Blanc can present a huge range of flavours from sour green fruits of apples, pears and gooseberries through to exotics tropical fruits of melon, mango and blackcurrant. In the coolest regions and vintages, these vines have “grassy”, gooseberry characters, whereas, in slightly warmer vintages the more passionfruit flavour with a zing of acidity, are more typical.

Sauvignon Blanc is often blended with Semillon which creates a perfect partnership and fuller palate style.

Wines labeled as fume blanc are sauvignon blanc wines that have seen some oak contact to impart smokey flavours, though quality unoaked sauvignon blancs will display smokey qualities without any oak treatment!
